Celebrating Indian Artforms with Kala

At Rey&I, we’ve always believed that clothing can tell stories – not just of where you’re going, but of where you come from. Our latest collection, Kala, is a love letter to India’s rich artistic heritage, bringing centuries-old traditions to the modern canvas of our signature swim shorts.

In Kala, three iconic art forms take centre stage.

Originating from the tribal communities of Madhya Pradesh, Gond is a vibrant, intricate style inspired by nature, folklore, and everyday village life. Its rhythmic patterns and vivid colours now flow across our shorts, adding energy to every step you take from beach to bar.

Born in the temple town of Nathdwara, Rajasthan, Pichwai paintings are famed for their detailed depictions of lotus blooms, peacocks, flora and the changing seasons. We’ve reinterpreted these rich motifs in refreshing palettes, turning devotional art into wearable stories of joy, abundance, and celebration.

Minimal yet deeply symbolic, Warli paintings from Maharashtra use simple lines and shapes to portray farming, festivals, and community life. Our Warli-inspired designs embrace earthy elegance, carrying the warmth of tradition into a contemporary coastal wardrobe.

Kala is more than a collection – it’s a conversation between past and present, artisans and adventurers. Each pair of swim shorts is crafted from quick-drying, breathable fabric, ensuring comfort in tropical waters while honouring the art that has travelled generations.

By wearing Kala, you don’t just carry a piece of India’s artistic soul – you keep it alive, visible, and relevant. Whether you’re on a sunlit beach or strolling through a resort, you’re part of a story that began centuries ago and continues with every wave you chase.

Heritage meets modernity with Kala.
