The founding principle of Rey&I is to make swimwear in the most sustainable fashion possible.
The first step in this endeavour is using recycled fabrics.
New Lease of Life
Our shorts are made from Revolutional Eco and Vita PL fabrics manufactured by Italian company, Carvico. This fabric is made from regenerated Nylon and Polyester sourced from pre-consumer fabric waste like carpet remnants and post-consumer materials such as discarded fishing nets.
Most recently, we have replaced non-biodegradable accessories such as metal hook clips and snap buttons with full biodegradable Corozo buttons. Made from the nut of the Tagua Palm, which grows wild in the South American rainforest, these buttons are natural and fully biodegradable.
Bottles to Beachwear
It’s an eyesore that we are all familiar with – discarded plastic bottles. The impact of plastic pollution on our oceans is worse. By 2050, it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea.
We are proud to use Repreve, a new proprietary recycled polyester fabric, made using 100% post-consumer PET bottles. Plastic bottles collected as marine litter, are shredded into tiny chips, heated, and spun into Repreve. This silky soft fabric enhances the vibrancy of colors while bringing out the richness of each pattern.
